AMD's new Threadripper processors will be way cheaper than Intel's Core i9

In less-exciting-but-still-exciting news, AMD has also announced that its Ryzen 3 series are en route, with two SKUs set to hit etail on the 27th of this month.

Update: 7/13/2017 9:00AM EST - We do have a video demo of Ryzen Threadripper 1950X and 1920X CPUs in action sent over by AMD.

Ryzen 3 vs Core i3, according to AMD.

These processors are designed exclusively to challenge Intel's top tier Core units, and as you might guess from their name there are threads - and cores - aplenty. Although we don't know how much X399 motherboards will cost, AMD says that the Ryzen Threadripper 1920X and 1950X will be priced at $799 and $999 respectively. Those include the Ryzen 3 1200 with 4 cores, 4 threads, and 3.1-GHz base and 3.4-GHz boost; and the Ryzen 3 1300X with 4 cores, 4 threads, and 3.5-GHz base and 3.7-GHz base.

Both of the new CPUs are said to beat the aforementioned i9 7900X.

Today, AMD reveals more about some upcoming Ryzen processors - both on the high and low end.

In a recent slide deck about Intel's own new server parts they talk about AMD repurposing a desktop processor for servers as a negative and about their poor track record. Such statements are subject to certain known and unknown risks and uncertainties, many of which are hard to predict and generally beyond AMD's control, that could cause actual results and other future events to differ materially from those expressed in, or implied or projected by, the forward-looking information and statements.

Those who have already bought into the Ryzen ecosystem, however, may be disappointed - but shouldn't be surprised - that Threadripper is not a drop-in upgrade for existing Ryzen systems. The chip runs at a base clock speed of 3.4 GHz, boostable to 4 GHz. The core-for-core, thread-for-thread match for the Ryzen Threadripper 1950X is the $1,699 Core i9-7960X.

At the opposite end of the market, AMD has confirmed that its 16-core, 32-thread Ryzen Threadripper 1950X CPU will cost $999 (approximately Rs. 64,380), and there will also be a 12-core, 24-thread model called the Ryzen Threadripper 1920X, priced at $799 (approximately Rs. 51,485). Meanwhile, the AMD fell low in overall PC gaming performance than the Intel's CPU. Ryzen 3 chips will come in two flavors, the Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200, and both pack 4 cores and 4 threads.
