"Then to back it up in Indian Wells and Miami, that part I couldn't believe, that I was able to sustain a great level".

"If anyone is to break it, I won't be sorry to see the record go to somebody like Roger", added Rosewall, who was in London to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Wimbledon Pro event.

"It makes me really happy, you know, making history here at Wimbledon", he said. Federer joined Pete Sampras and Jimmy Connors as a five-time winner of the title in the Open era.

There is one aspect of playing in the 1950s that he would never swap, however.

Federer has stormed into the title match without dropping a set and his semi-final rival Tomas Berdych believes his Swiss tormentor is playing as well as ever.

The 37-year-old American will play Garbine Muguruza on Centre Court for her sixth title at the All England Club.

"Definitely it's great for me to be in the final of a grand slam again".

"I am unbelievably excited".

0 - Number of women who had beaten Serena and Venus Williams in Grand Slam finals before Muguruza. "I have to play offensive myself".

After claiming an 18th title almost 14 years after his first, we look back at the great man's unbelievable career.

"He knows he absolutely destroyed Roger", said Jonas Bjorkman, one of Cilic's two coaches. "He's just proving his greatness in our sport", the Czech said after falling to Federer for a 19th time. They won the French Open in 2013 and the U.S. Open in 2014.

The Fed Express won his first US Open title and third major of the year with a 6-0 7-6 (7-3) 6-0 victory over Australian Lleyton Hewitt.

However, Cilic's game is made for grass and 12 months ago he led Federer by two sets to love and held three match points in an epic quarter-final which the Swiss superstar eventually claimed. He will face Marin Cilic in the final.

They played each other seven times previously, with Federer winning six, including in last year's Wimbledon quarterfinals. You don't feel like you have to reinvent the wheel.

"It's more straightforward, in my opinion". But I know Roger personally and I admire him more as a person. But it doesn't give me the title quite yet. He just has to find them. "I hope I can play one more good match".

"Obviously I'm going to look back, 12 months ago I was one point away from winning a match against him here".
