Marlins swept by Dodgers as trade talks heat up

17 Julio 2017

By getting to the All-Star game with the best record in baseball at 61-29 and 7.5 game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks the Dodgers are almost guaranteed their fifth straight division title.

Bellinger hit a single in the first inning, a two-run home run in the third and an RBI double in the fourth before tripling to deep right-center in the seventh. Turner's sacrifice fly in the third inning allowed Logan Forsythe to tag up and score the Dodgers' second run.

The 27-year-old George Mason product earned his promotion earlier this month after going 3-5 with a 3.29 ERA in 12 appearances (nine starts) at Triple-A New Orleans while allowing hitters to bat.219 against him. He's joined the ranks of Jackie Robinson, Gil Hodges, Wes Parker and Orlando Hudson.

The four hits are a career high for Bellinger, who finished 4-for-5 with three runs-batted-in and two runs scored. After taking six of seven a season ago from Los Angeles, the Marlins have dropped five of the first six meetings this season despite entering the All-Star break having won five of six overall.

The Dodgers will wrap their three-game set against the Marlins on Sunday afternoon when Rich Hill takes the mound. If you bet $100 on the Cubs in every game this season, you'd be down $1,563, according to sports analytics site BetLabSports.com on SportsInsights.

If the Dodgers want to avoid joining the Braves the team will have to continue to play great baseball once they get in the post season. At this writing, Bellinger is batting.272/.350/.642. Stanton said after the game he got the glove he dropped back.

Roberts said of Puig's actions at the time, "I made it clear I was not pleased with what he did". He was then removed due to a pitch-count restriction with much ballyhoo. "He get like a little baby with that".

The defending-champion Chicago Cubs started the season as the consensus favorites, but, after a disappointing start, were overtaken in May by the Dodgers, Astros, Nationals and Indians.

The Astros are so good they are 16.5 games in front of the Angels and Rangers in the AL West, and 10 games ahead of Boston, the team with the second-best record in the AL.

Kenley Jansen, whom the Marlins pursued but failed to sign in the offseason, converted his 23rd save, but not without some resistance in the eighth inning.

"Everybody's asking, 'Is the ball juiced?" "But I think the right thing at this moment is to stay the course".
