Antonio Conte: Alvaro Morata needs more time

12 Agosto 2017

The defending champs have already been written off by the pundits - despite winning the title with a massive 93 points.

A Chelsea spokesperson then intervened, saying: "Nothing to report on that".

Alvaro Morata will wear the No. 9 shirt for Chelsea this season. Instead, it has been a period of uncertainty. "But now I have adapted and I'm looking forward to playing".

He added: "It was the same last season". We have to deal with that and handle that.

"What happens in the transfer market, the club are trying to do their best".

It is important to spend money to improve the quality of your team. But I'm not obsessed in that sense as I would change it for any collective title.

Wing-back Victor Moses is suspended so Conte must make at least two changes to the side which started against Arsenalin the Community Shield, with playmaker Eden Hazard (broken ankle) and midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko (knee) both still out.

Antonio Conte summed up a frustrating close season at Stamford Bridge when he cast doubt on Chelsea's ability to defend the Premier League title unless the champions find a quick solution to their transfer woes.

John Terry's influence in the dressing room has gone following the veteran defender's move to second-tier Aston Villa, while the squad has been further depleted by the loss of a number of fringe players including Nathan Ake and Kurt Zouma. I think we are better than last season.

"When you speak about pressure with me".

The new boy wore a bib alongside fellow defenders Azpilicueta, Luiz, Cahill and Alonso in training, perhaps hinting at Conte's plans for Burnley.

Conte said: "It's simple".

"It started with Real Madrid and Ronaldo going for £80m and then Bale for £85m".

But Conte, angered by Chelsea's failure to land top targets Romelu Lukaku and Alex Sandro, has made it clear he expected more.

"Maybe he has the opposite problem [to me]". But not what happened this summer.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is confident that the club are doing their best to recruit players in the transfer market and he is only focusing on his job of preparing the team.

The Clarets have just sold Andre Gray to Watford for £18 million to rob Dyche of his key striker on the eve of the new campaign.

Striker Diego Costa was certainly not one of those players, and Conte admits he does not know when - or if - the fiery Spaniard will return to the club.
