Blackberry Priv and DTEK Series May Not Receive Android Oreo Update

( Before the S8 and S8 Note, the Samsung Galaxy S7 was undoubtedly the best smartphone.

Looks like it's the end of the line for software updates for Priv owners.

BlackBerry seems to be satisfied with the response it is receiving from KEYone buyers. Now when the phone runs on Android Nougat, it is no more a phone with the latest OS.

Some of the highlights of the Android 8.0 Oreo update include an improved user interface. Everyone is now waiting for Oreo update on the Samsung Galaxy S7. Nevertheless, the BlackBerry General Manager did mention that BlackBerry was still committed to providing security updates for the device as well as for other DTEK smartphones. However, Samsung had promised a future upgrade for the smartphone and rightly so, it is here! Nougat arrived on T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint two with a significant gap.

What are your thoughts on the Priv's final stand?

Given the track record, you can expect Android Oreo on the Galaxy S7 during the first quarter of 2018. BlackBerry does continue to support Priv, DTEK50, and DTEK60 (and of course KEYone) with security updates but even these Thurber explained require a complex matrix of partners working together, including the licensees, carriers, Qualcomm and of course BlackBerry. According to the company, manufacturers won't need a lot of time to roll out the updates. It started getting the Nougat update last month, beginning with Thailand.
