2018 iPhone X leaks start to emerge including a bigger screen

Looks like Apple is not yet ready to bid farewell to LCD.

"We tumbled three samples of the iPhone X. The first was fine after 50 drops, but the glass on the back was significantly cracked after 100". The device is expected to cost less than the iPhone X successor, for it is sporting a liquid crystal display.

The 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will also trade the glass back found on the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X for a metal back used on older models, like the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus and will be available in "several colors", according to Nikkei. Casetek now supplies Apple with LCD screens for its iPads, so it could also be tapped by Apple to supply the new iPhone model with LCD panels.

As 9to5Mac points out, next year's LCD iPhone is likely to be the more affordable option. An industry executive said that Pegatron and Casetek may be able to integrate their offerings for iPhone orders next year by virtue of their link to each other, like Foxconn which has its own metal frame and casing production unit.

Granted, I've been using many of my favorite apps in "dark mode" to enjoy the dynamic range of the OLED screen - Twitter and the excellent Apollo Reddit client, chief among them - but I still spend a lot of time using this phone to watch videos, GIFs, take notes, set reminders, make calls, and constantly refresh Twitter.

The testers said, 'On its first drop, SquareTrade saw the iPhone X shatter, its screen become unresponsive, and its widely touted facial recognition feature fail completely. The information was shared by KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi Kou. The Korean company is the sole supplier of OLED displays for the iPhone X. Apple will maintain a lineup of LCD iPhones until it has another supplier of OLED screens. Additional reports from Nikkei and Nomura Securities Co. Apple and Samsung Display reportedly inked a deal for 67 million iPhone X panels. The display on the phone is expected to feature a 6.1-inch tall TFT LCD display.

The low-end LCD device out of the three will be assembled by Pegatron and possibly Wistron.

As per usual, Apple is pretty mum in the wake of emerging rumors about its future iPhones.
