Rio Ferdinand backs 'manipulator' Philippe Coutinho to complete £140m Liverpool exit

The Brazilian international was rumoured to have handed in a transfer request this summer mid reported offers over the €150 million mark.

Coutinho said: "I do not know how the future is going to be". When the Brazilian's phone started ringing, former Norwegian striker Jan Aage Fjortoft - who was conducting the interview - joked that it was Barcelona calling. I don't know if there will be an offer.

The tricky Brazilian was at his brilliant best last night netting a Champions League hat-trick in the 7-0 thumping of sorry Spartak. I feel Liverpool will do themselves no good by holding onto a player who is not committed to the club.

Liverpool was one of four English teams to qualify in first place, along with Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham, and its tally of 23 group-stage goals is the second-highest in the competition's history, only behind Paris Saint-Germain's 25 from this season too.

It won't be long before the January transfer window is open, and when it does, it appears that Philippe Coutinho potentially going to Barcelona will again be the dominant narrative. Exiting the pitch to the Kop singing his praises, Coutinho went on to thank the supporters in his post match interview, but when the subject of Barcelona's interest in bringing him to the Nou Camp was broached he immediately removed the kid gloves.

"I am here (at Liverpool), we have a lot of games and I try to do my best to help". Firmino raced onto the loose ball and curled home a shot with the outside of his right foot. Meanwhile, from a Liverpool point of view, there is every chance Coutinho thrives at the 2018 World Cup with Brazil this summer, which would increase his value significantly. The Brazilian wants to depart Anfield, and it will be the best option for both the player and the club to part ways happily.

Coutinho though chose his words carefully and reiterated that his desire was to move to Barcelona in the summer.

Philippe Coutinho scored a hat-trick against Spartak Moscow in the Champions League.
