Former Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced this week that he's running, joining former state Sen.

A Senate campaign by the 85-year-old Arpaio also might aid a more moderate Republican by splitting the vote.

"The once bedrock American commitment to paying our bills has been replaced by over $20 trillion in national debt".

Obama's birth certificate, which his campaign produced in response to Trump's years-long badgering, shows he was born in Hawaii.

Arpaio became well-known for his outdoor jail known as Tent City and for forcing inmates to wear pink underwear. Ward falls to 13% with a potential endorsement from former Trump strategist Steve Bannon. The movement consisted of mostly angry white conservatives who expressed frustration with the growing size of the government, with some not being shy about their racial prejudice against the newly elected president.

Asked on CNN on Thursday how Arpaio has been a leader on immigration, Ward said the former sheriff stood up for the "rule of law".

Arpaio endorsed Trump just before the first votes in the Iowa caucuses in 2016.

Despite his obvious faults and his defeat in 2016, the former sheriff still commands the loyalty of many voters and has a proven ability to raise millions of dollars from supporters across the nation.

"I'm not going down there to spend 20 years as a senator", he said. "We have the evidence, nobody will talk about it, nobody will look at it".

"If you're Kelli Ward today, you must think the political Gods are against you, because once upon a time, you were set to win the primary and Jeff Flake withdrew, then you were set to win because no one else was getting in, and now practically Donald Trump himself has gotten in the race", said Barnes.
