The President's fitness for office has been questioned since the publication of a highly critical book, Fire and Fury, which claims that Mr Trump's former chief strategist, Steve Bannon, questioned his competence.

The tome triggered an acrimonious and highly public split between Trump and Steve Bannon, who was ousted last year from the White House from his perch as one of the president's most trusted lieutenants. "There are numerous mistakes, but I'm not going to waste my time or the country's time going page by page, talking about a book that's complete fantasy and just full of tabloid gossip, because it's sad, pathetic, and our administration and our focus is going to be on moving the country forward", Sanders said.

President Trump tweeted that Wolff had no access, and the book is full of "lies, misrepresentation and sources that don't exist".

Trump attempted to stop the book from being released, but the book officially released Friday at 9 a.m. ET and is soaring atop Amazon's Best Sellers list.

"I think it is a disgrace that someone is able to have something, do something like that", he said of the book. Bannon was quoted as saying that Donald Trump Jr. had been "treasonous" and "unpatriotic" for meeting with Russians during the 2016 campaign and that Ivanka Trump was "dumb as a brick".

Later that night, Trump issued a threat to his former aide, slapping him with the nickname "Sloppy Steve".

Wolff said the book is based on 200 interviews, including those with people who work closely with Trump on a daily basis.

"(Trump) said that this interview that he's giving me is the only interview he is doing for a book or will do for a book", Kessler said. She took strong objection to the question that Trump, according to the book, did not want to win.

The tweet was a reference to donor Rebekah Mercer issuing a statement to the Washington Post distancing herself from Bannon. I wasn't angling for some job.
